Lego Pirates Themed Sets

The popular Lego pirate themed sets were first launched in 1989. These early Lego Pirate Sets included the first minfigs minus the traditional head and only had 2 dots for eyes and a drawn smile. The features of these pirate minfigures varied from ones that had eye patches on, to some that included hair and beards and even a black pirates head rag. Alongside these sets, blue coated Imperial Soldiers were also released to “fight” against the plundering sea pirates.

1997 saw the release of the last few Lego Pirate Sets. In the years to come, a few other sets were re-released and the same pirate theme can also be seen in some Duplo sets. A favorite Lego’s ships pirate is Captain Redbeard, also known as Captain Roger.  He was introduced in 1889 and became one of Legos most popular characters together with his first mate and confidant, Rummy.

News Flash! There is good news for Lego Pirate set fans. Lego has put out brand new pirate sets in their 2009 product releases. Check them out now and come back often as these sets are already available.
